Stock transparency across all partners
With only a very short lead time, EURO-LOG developed a system that no longer merely states skeleton containers, tanks and other containers as an account balance, but via a double entry bookkeeping system
manages actual stocks. The rollout for 22 locations and around 130 suppliers was successfully realized worldwide within ten and Europe-wide within just six months. The new system consolidates data interactively maintained by the participating partners in the EURO-LOG-hosted database and
makes them available in real time. The container movement data are captured on the Internet via an intuitively operated entry mask. Entries are posted either automatically or manually via VDA standard interfaces (such as VDA 4913). This significantly reduces multiple entries and the manual input for capturing container movements. The system supports
container scheduling through utilization of vendor managed inventory functions such as determination of minimum and maximum stocks as well as pre-definable reactions to transgressions of these lower and upper threshold values. The system also integrates
daily pro rata calculation of container leases. At month’s end, the monthly lease costs for provided containers is determined on the basis of actual use and automatically sent to Woco’s ERP system.
ROI achieved within the first year
The system enabled
cost-effective optimization of container logistics in a closed cycle between all suppliers pragmatically and with a short realization time. Container flows and stocks became transparent across all partners. Costs were significantly lowered thanks to uniform stock management. The system ensures that the required load devices are available when and where they are needed. At the same time, idle times are reduced. With the help of barcodes, RFID labels or type-related listing, it is possible to trace containers as well as individual shipments. Like this, Woco can proactively manage container stocks and in the event of exceptions intervene in real time. Another advantage: the multi-language system can be integrated into a wide variety of partner standards or systems with very little complexity.
