A courtyard full of empty pallets and skeleton containers is annoying, especially since it points to a huge potential for improvement as regards container productivity. Even worse are expensive special containers of unknown address, whose only proof of existence is their investment receipt. Costs for ensuing new acquisitions are just as dramatically superfluous as costs generated through unnecessary empty idle times. There is therefore high demand for a software solution for the efficient management of containers and load devices. Enterprise software comes up against natural limits here, as a container crosses company boundaries several times. Effective load device management must therefore integrate the systems of consignors, suppliers and logistics providers as well as partners that are not based on SAP or another XML-enabled system.Up to now, automotive supplier Woco used a commercially available container management system based on bilateral relations. The container costs were not allocated fairly according to cause – this was simply not possible for technical reasons. An unacceptable situation for Woco. Faced with the choice of whether to continue to accept this annoying situation or do something about it – Woco clearly decided in favour of the latter.
