In the ForFOOD research project, IT service provider EURO-LOG combined container information with Track&Trace data
Hallbergmoos-Munich – As part of the ForFOOD research project, EURO-LOG's Container Management System has helped create a more transparent supply chain for the food industry. Under a project carried out by the Institute for Materials Handling, Material Flow and Logistics (fml) and the Department of High Frequency Technology at the Technical University of Munich, in partnership with DYNAMIC Systems GmbH, Edeka Handelsgesellschaft Südbayern mbH and GEBHARDT Food & Retail Solutions GmbH, EURO-LOG became involved in developing a safe and efficient supply chain for the food industry and improving quality and efficiency in the production and distribution of foods through optimum use of resources. EURO-LOG made its Container Management software available and incorporated Track&Trace data into the software to monitor deliveries.
The project started out with the goal of making the food industry supply chain safer and more efficient through the use of intelligent containers. It focused on cold chain monitoring as well as product tracking. Monitoring of the cold chain serves above all to safeguard food quality within the supply chain. The idea was to use intelligent containers which would display the climatic conditions and communicate these via RFID. The information flow and the container flow were to be parallelized.
From projects in a wide range of sectors, such as the automotive industry, EURO-LOG already has experience of linking different types of information from existing IT systems. EURO-LOG is also experienced when it comes to using mobile data to generate real-time data by connecting IT systems with logistics apps for smartphones and tablets. Linking all this data allows real-time communication along the whole supply chain. Individual shipments can be controlled and monitored from start to finish.
The findings from the ForFOOD project are channelled into the ongoing development of EURO-LOG's IT systems, enabling temperature monitoring in food logistics using EURO-LOG systems. Currently the IT service provider is also working on a method of reading temperature data via the Mobile Track logistics app. This allows not only the capture and distribution of status data, but also the complete communication and documentation of all transport modes with just one app and one terminal device.
For 25 years, EURO-LOG has been providing IT services to shippers and logistics service providers who know that logistics is much more than just transporting goods from A to B. With the help of the EUROLOG SCM PLATFORM, the IT service provider connects all process partners involved in real time, creates a transparent supply chain to improve cooperation and offers managers maximum control.
The innovative IT solutions, which provide open service interfaces, are ready to use on the EUROLOG SCM PLATFORM: B2B Integration, Procurement Management, Transport Management, ONE TRACK Shipment Tracking, Container Management and Mobile Logistics Solutions. EURO-LOG’s solutions are currently used by international customers operating in sectors such as automotive, ecommerce & retail, industry and logistics as well as many others.
EURO-LOG was founded in 1992 as a joint venture by Deutsche Telekom, France Telecom and Digital Equipment. The firm became a “people-owned company” in 1997 and developed into one of the leading providers of IT and process integration. Today, at the head office in Hallbergmoos-Munich with its own computer centres, more than 80 employees provide for transparency in logistic processes with innovative software applications and individual links.
