Intelligent supply and transportation control at the Volkswagen Gruppe

The Euro Log data platform manages real-time communication between Volkswagen Group plants, suppliers and logistics service providers.

DISCOVERY: Digital Supply Chain Communication

Using the ‘DISCOVERY: Digital Supply Chain Communication’ communication and data platform developed by Euro Log and configured for the Volkswagen Group, the car manufacturer is able to ensure transparency in the supply process. Automated notification and real-time track & trace are important core elements.

The uniform communication and standardised supply process offered by DISCOVERY enable the dispatchers at the car manufacturing plants to recognise and intervene in the event of a disruption to the process at an early stage. The car manufacturer tracks full and empty containers via status messages from the carriers and the integration of geo-data and GPS data in real time, end-to-end. If a supplier requires extra empty containers at a specific location for a delivery, it is possible to digitally book the containers with the company.

In providing packaging regulations reffered to item numbers digitally, suppliers can see at a glance which parts need to be packed and how, and in which containers.

Track & Trace in real time for full and empty containers

The platform enhances the delivery schedule with additional master data. When calculating the shipping date, the actual transport time as well as country-specific public holidays and driving restrictions are taken into account. Suppliers can very simply and efficiently ensure that they comply with the set target goods receipt date.

The DISCOVERY platform generates high-quality information as a sound basis for technologies such as big data, artificial intelligence and predictive analytics. The flexibility of the platform also allows the rapid and easy connection of CEP service providers for express and parcel shipments or to other modules, such as the Container Management System. DISCOVERY also won over the jury at the AKJ Automotive congress, which awarded Euro Log and Volkswagen Group Logistics the Elogistics Award.
